What are they talking about??

While there is lots of vocabulary associated with online tools and communities, start by just going along and using as much context as you can. Then Google it. Seriously.

What is a ning? Google says: “Ning is an online platform for users to create their own social websites and social networks.”

What is a Voicethread? “A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to leave comments in 5 ways - using voice (with a mic or phone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam)”.

You may also run into some sms texting abbreviations, or just random abbreviations when using a tool such as Twitter (microblogging platform) which limits messages (tweets) to 140 characters. There will be lots of confusing things - don’t be afraid to ask, either a person or Google, what something means.
